    My hubby and I disagree on this one. Which will BEST cool off the frequently used rooms in our 2-story townhouse: 1. Close all the vents in every room we never use and close the doors to those rooms as well? - The theory here is that if we close off the UNUSED rooms, the air conditioner will only have to work to cool off the rooms we DO use.     • Leave them all open. Your HVAC ducting should be set up for optimal exchange through the air returns. it also depends on where your thermostat is located but ordinarily the inside of homes aren t insulated so the warm rooms are counter productive to the AC.

    I have always been puzzled about it. Would love to know about low side and high side and expansion valve, orifice tube, dryer etc,etc, and sometimes called liquid side How does it really work? I guess I have all the pieces to the puzzle, I just need to put them together

    Someone during a presentation in class said something about compression of air / decompression? I didn t really understand him at the time. Can someone explain?

    • One could use air, but freon is more efficient for the type of temperatures involved. When you take a volume of gas, any volume, say a cubic foot, it has a certain amount of thermal energy. When you compress-it into a smaller volume it still has the same energy, so the temperature has to rise. Now that the gas is hot, it can be cooled to ambient temperature say 100ºF This is done in the condenser coil (radiator) Once this gas is decompressed …
